CONCEPT

The Tinos Project is a self-initiated project, which centers on rethinking traditional products’ packaging design. The initial idea was to develop a product family fundamentally designed to incorporate references to the local identity and the traditional production process.

To tinos project είναι μια πρωτοβουλία για το σχεδιασμό συσκευασιών παραδοσιακών προϊόντων. Βασική ιδέα ήταν η δημιουργία μιας σειράς προϊόντων που θα ενσωματώνουν στο σχεδιασμό τους αναφορές στην ταυτότητα του τόπου τους και στη διαδικασία παραγωγής.

Our aim was a complete overhaul for each product, so as to rethink, not only the graphic design elements of the packaging, but rather its shape and feel as well.

Θέλαμε όμως αυτό να γίνει περισσότερο σε επίπεδο γενικού σχήματος, παρά εικονογραφικά ή περιγραφικά.

Tinos island was chosen as a place to provide, besides the specific local products, several stimuli for this creative process.

Η Τήνος επιλέχθηκε ως ένας τόπος που παρέχει, εκτός από τα συγκεκριμένα προϊόντα που πρωτογενώς παράγονται στο νησί, μια εκτεταμένη βάση αφορμών για αυτή τη δημιουργική διαδικασία.

Five products were designed for this project.

For this alcoholic beverage we came up with a premium bottling experience. Through extensive research in distillation we schematically depicted the process of converting solid matter (grapes) into gaseous and then liquid form.

Για το προϊόν της ρακής θέλαμε μια εντελώς νέα φιάλη. Μελετώντας την διαδικασία της απόσταξης σκεφτήκαμε να αποδώσουμε γλυπτικά την διαδικασία της μετατροπής της στερεάς ύλης (σταφύλια) σε αέρια μορφή και έπειτα σε υγρή.

Such a concept is derived from the use of a compostable, sugar cane based material, whose fluctuating forms symbolize the distillation process.

Αυτό μας οδήγησε στο σχεδιασμό της βάσης από bepulp (υλικό από ίνες ζαχαροκάλαμου) με τις διακυμάνσεις που συμβολίζουν την άνοδο  προς το διάφανο υλικό-περιέκτη του ποτού.

In this emphatic design we aimed at a simple typographic rendition that would be coherent throughout the product range.

Σε αυτόν τον εμφατικό σχεδιασμό θέλαμε μια απλή τυπογραφική απόδοση η οποία κρατήθηκε και στην υπόλοιπη σειρά των προϊόντων.

A combination of two materials was a paramount principle for the artichoke packaging. This decision appears cohesively throughout this visual identity.

Για το προϊόν αυτό, ακολουθήσαμε την βασική αρχή του συνδυασμού των δύο υλικών και των αποφάσεων για την όλη ταυτότητα.

The embossed shape in the pot’s lid is a direct reference to the artichoke itself.

Έπειτα αποφασίσαμε να ενσωματώσουμε την μορφολογία του σχήματος της αγκινάρας στο καπάκι του δοχείου.

The strainer, a surface separating the olive oil from the artichokes and keeping them afloat, was also a solution we came up with during the brainstorming phase.

Στο αρχικό στάδιο του brainstorming επίσης σκεφτήκαμε το στραγγιστή, μια ιδέα που θα κρατάει το ελαιόλαδο στο δοχείο, φέρνοντας το προϊόν στην επιφάνεια.

τυρί καλαθάκι

The idea for the kalathaki cheese is found in the very process of its production, the traditional basket of Tinos.

Για το τυρί η ιδέα ήταν η ίδια η διαδικασία παραγωγής του, στο παραδοσιακό καλαθάκι της Τήνου.

The packaging is a combination of a special wrapping with rice paper and a shape reminiscent of a shell, emitting a sense of purity and order.

Τη φόρμα απ’ το καλαθάκι την συνδυάσαμε με ένα ιδιαίτερο τύλιγμα με ριζόχαρτο το οποίο, εκτός από το ότι παραπέμπει σε όστρακο, δίνει μια αίσθηση καθαρότητας και τάξης.

Τhe remaining design decisions fall in line with the rest of this identity’s essential ideas.

Οι επιλογές για τα υπόλοιπα μέρη του σχεδιασμού ακολούθησαν τις βασικές ιδέες της ταυτότητας.

The Tinos marzipans’ concept was to have a small packaging with reference to the characteristic pigeon houses found extensively across the island, while enabling multiple packagings to form a larger gift box together.

Οι βασικές επιλογές για τα αμυγδαλωτά Τήνου ήταν να έχουμε μια μικρή συσκευασία με αναφορές στο νησί και ταυτόχρονα να μπορεί σε συνδυασμό να σχηματίσει μια μεγαλύτερη συσκευασία -δώρου-.

The materials selected were bepulp and thick rice paper.

Τα υλικά που επιλέχθηκαν ήταν το bepulp και παχύ ριζόχαρτο.

χειροποίητα ζυμαρικά

Τhe fundamental idea for the lasagne packaging came from the very way of producing this hand-made pasta.

Στα ζυμαρικά βασική ιδέα ήταν η δημιουργία ενός γεωμετρικού σχήματος απ’ τις αναφορές του νησιού που να παραπέμπει στον τρόπο παραγωγής των χειροποίητων ζυμαρικών.

Thus, on the packaging, we placed the drying stick of the pasta in relief, and the window-cutter in the shape of hanging pasta.

Έτσι αποτυπώσαμε στη συσκευασία τη ράβδο στεγνώματος των ζυμαρικών σε ανάγλυφο και το παράθυρο-κοπτικό στο σχήμα των κρεμασμένων ζυμαρικών.

Αpart from being an aesthetic reference, we have found that the embossed stick at the top of the triangular packaging also functions well as a small grip, which adds to the consumer’s haptic experience with the product.

Εκτός από την αισθητική αναφορά, διαπιστώσαμε ότι το ανάγλυφο ραβδί στην κορυφή της τριγωνικής συσκευασίας λειτουργεί επίσης και ως μια μικρή λαβή, η οποία επαυξάνει την απτική εμπειρία του καταναλωτή με το προϊόν.

To complement the visual identity we also designed a custom typeface specifically for this project.

Για το έργο, σχεδιάσαμε μια νέα γραμματοσειρά.

This typeface derives from ancient and archaic writings that can be found in various historic relics of Tinos.

While carrying a strong heritage, it also varies in contemporary geometry to create and promote a fresh look that bonds well together with the rest of the series’ concept.
