Artificial Intelligence is in our lives already, in a plethora of human activities and underlying data-intensive tasks; yet, as AI is involved in visual processing, an open field for exploration in visual communication and design is drawn up.

Η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη είναι ήδη στη ζωή μας σε μια πληθώρα εφαρμογών και υποδόριων διεργασιών που αφορούν διαχείριση δεδομένων. Όμως, καθώς η τεχνητή νοημοσύνη αφορά και την οπτική επεξεργασία, ένα μεγάλο ανοιχτό πεδίο εξερεύνησης στην οπτική επικοινωνία και στο design σχηματίζεται. 

At this stage of AI’s role in creative processes, in which toolsets and workflows are not yet fully integrated or developed for designers, we perceive human and artificial collaboration concept and practice as a perfectly timed challenge.  

To uniquely address this challenge, we have initiated a major project (starting 2021), with many steps involved.

Σε αυτή την χρονική στιγμή, που η εξέλιξη της T.N. και των υλοποιήσεων της δεν έχει ενσωματωθεί ακόμα σε εφαρμογές και εργαλεία που αφορούν το design, η συνέργεια ανθρώπινης και τεχνητής νοημοσύνης ως σκέψη και πρακτική για τον συγκεκριμένο χώρο θεωρείται για εμάς ως πρόκληση. 

Για να αντιμετωπίσουμε αυθεντικά την πρόκληση αυτή έχουμε ήδη ξεκινήσει από το 2021 ένα σημαντικό πρότζεκτ με πολλά βήματα. 

 

 

Our ongoing study and practice on new technologies and collaboration between human and artificial intelligence in the creative field aims at mapping the possibilities of what is interesting and new, but also keeps a record of the relation between two different knowledge systems, involving a series of questions and perspectives. 

This is a novel initiative that repositions our mindsets, yet, concurrently, it corresponds to existing principles at brand.new, concerning the relation of creative reasoning and design means for the development of narratives.

Moreover, this initiative expands our capacity, acting like a natural extension of our multi-disciplinary position.

Η τρέχουσα μελέτη και πρακτική σε αυτές τις νέες τεχνολογίες και την συνεργασία μεταξύ ανθρώπινης και τεχνητής νοημοσύνης στο δημιουργικό τομέα στοχεύει στην χαρτογράφηση των δυνατοτήτων, του τι είναι ενδιαφέρον και νέο, αλλά ταυτόχρονα η μελέτη καταγράφει την σχέση μεταξύ δύο διαφορετικών γνωστικών συστημάτων και εμπλέκεται σε μια σειρά ζητημάτων από διαφορετικές οπτικές. 

Αυτή είναι μια νέα πρωτοβουλία, που επανατοποθετεί το σκεπτικό μας, αλλά ταυτόχρονα ανταποκρίνεται στις ήδη υπάρχουσες αρχές του γραφείου αναφορικά με τη σχέση δημιουργικών μέσων και δημιουργικού σκεπτικού. 

Επιπλέον αυτή η νέα πρωτοβουλία επεκτείνει την περιοχή ενδιαφέροντος, λειτουργώντας ως φυσική επέκταση στον υφιστάμενο διεπιστημονικό χαρακτήρα της brand.new

 The cave paintings in Lascaux may have been part of visual communication, art or ritual. Hard to say. Use this parallel here as well, as AI development is in its early stages for design.

 You can get creepy results, yes -but that’s part of the magic.

 CI works on the assumption that all systems of knowledge are valid as long as they communicate.

 Any sort of communication outcome can benefit from it.

 Artificial Intelligence on its own can produce interesting things, it can amplify our pool of ideas, the availability of solutions and possibilities. Combining AI with HI, however, is what we’re after.

 In fact, every result that comes out of current AI implementations is a collaborative intelligence result. Setting the parameters of a calculation, for example, is an HI action. As we are focusing on design, human creativity is a prerequisite for any CI result.

 We are using many AI implementations, some of them additions to well-known software targeted at designers, experimental pieces of code, different kinds of tools, even some specified for making art. What we did was not stay “within” these and address the software openly. 

 CI expands the possibilities, but at the end the client does not get overwhelmed by solutions that make decision a struggle. They get better proposals that serve strategy and ideas. 

 The person that uses this software is always the owner of its results. Results are unique, yet not personalised or branded, or customized, if the user/creator decides to move at random.
